The “Queen”Yu-na wins gold with record score!

February 26, 2010

Fantastic performance!  Yu-na Kim was crowned Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games champion with a new world record combined total of 228.56. She won with a huge margin of 23.06 points.

Kim Yu-na dissolved into tears after she obliterated the opposition to become the first South Korean to win an Olympic figure skating gold medal, while a grieving Joannie Rochette melted millions of hearts with a display of sheer courage…”

The “Queen” Yu-na, center, stands with silver medalist Mao Asada, left, and bronze medalist Joannie Rochette of Canada during the medals ceremony.

Kim Yu-na can finally relax and not need to think about the future after the teenager rose to the occasion and won the gold medal in the women’s figure skating on Thursday.

The 19-year-old was the overwhelming favorite to finish top of the podium but said the pressure going into the event was immense.

“I feel now as if a huge burden has been lifted,” the Games’ highest-earning female athlete — she makes an estimated $8 million a year — said after her dazzling, near-perfect program where she nailed all of her 11 jumps.

“I will enjoy this moment and think about things later. I was just thrilled on the podium and I feel so relieved. I had been running toward this dream of the Olympics and was so happy to be here,” she said.

“Since I have accomplished the most important goal in my life I am going to enjoy this moment for a while and then think about what I am going to do,” a beaming Yu-na said…

And here’s clip explains the “Queen” Yu-na with Canadian Coach Brian Orser!

Thank you, Yu-na Kim! 연아야 고마워!

Asking for pay to volunteer in Haiti? What the F***!

January 27, 2010

According to CBC News, Quebec Health Minister Yves Bolduc is evaluating a request by some of orthopedic doctors that they be reimbursed $704 per day by the province for volunteer work in devastated Haiti where thousands of thousands people were killed from massive earthquake.

The vice-president Dr. Louis Bellemare for the Quebec’s association of orthopedists said…

“The doctors who are in Haiti will stay, regardless of whether the government agrees to reimburse them,… But if they were paid the $704 base fee they normally receive in Quebec, they might stay longer and more doctors might decide they could afford to go, he added.”

Isn’t it clear matter to everyone that if they were ORDERED, like Canadian Forces and search-and-rescue teams, to go down to Haiti by the government then they should be paid. If they VOLUNTEERED to go without being asked they should not be paid.

Comments section are flooding with angers on these doctors and some comments are even escalating this issue to the Quebec bashing level.

And this comments highlighted me

“For $700 a day, I’d “Quebec volunteer” anywhere on this planet under whatever conditions were required by me.”

Fox News show bashed Canada

March 26, 2009

Every local media is talking about “Red Eye” this week.  Is this “Red Eye”, of course I never heard of before this, supposed to be a comedy show?  Actually I am not surprised most  American’s ignorance about outside world. (Seriously do they even know their surroundings beyond ten hundred kilometer radius?)   But the level of ignorance is unbelievable from comments are made from the host, Greg Gutfield, and his fellow panelists on national television network, so called Fox News Network, that the Canadian Forces would use the year to “do some yoga, paint some landscapes, and run on the beach”,  “the perfect time to invade this ridiculous country” because “they have no army.”,  “I didn’t even know they were in the war”, and “Canada only has a Police force that rides around on Horses, without bulletproof vests or armored vehicle”…blah blah blah.

Title on YouTube clip says all about “How to lose friends and alienate countries”

They just cross the line of humor under the name of “free speech”.    It is just another typical view of Americans on outside world. These people continue to live in a world of their own making – a world in which they are the centre of the universe with all stereotypes aside.

And these people keep forgetting that their own Soldiers are risking their lives or dying to protect the rights of these peoples, idiots, to” free speech”

I do not know much about Canada yet but I know few facts about Canada’s contribution to the world peace including 116 fine Canadian military personnel have given their lives in Afghanistan since 2002.

NO Medal for team Canada yet!

August 14, 2008

Where are you team Canada at the Beijing Olympics?

I am very surprised and sad to see that team Canada has not won any medal yet.  I am not even talking about a “Gold” medal.  Not a silver, not a bronze medal. Any medal!  Togo has a medal. Belarus has won two. Even Georgia has won three medal despite the war with RussiaNorth Korea has earned seven medal so far.  Korea has won 16 medals (Hip Hip Hooray!!)  Our neighbors to the south won 34 medals for the US and a medal for Mexico and Reporters starting to get a bit worried that the entire Canadian team would won fewer medal than US swimmer Michael Phelps.

Team Canada won 12 medals in Athens.  Not this time, yet.   Team Canada have qualified for eight finals in Beijing so far, more than double their total at the 2004 Athens Games. Canadian Atheltes have broken 21 national records and set 28 personal bests, numbers skewed by the fact they are wearing the new, high-tech racing suits. But NO medal yet.

Why?  What going on? Are athletes cursed? Is it because all the efforts and cheers went to winter sports or winter Olympic? Were Canadian Atheltes funded at all?

Olympics motto is “Citius, Altius, Fortius,” or “Swifter, Higher, Stronger”. And there’s no argue on the Olympics Oath that

The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.”

BUT Olympics is an international sports events.  Every citizens around the world would be happy to see their national athletes on podium and to hear their national anthem while the national flags on the pole.  I want to see the “Maple Leaf” and to hear” O Canada”

For whatever reasons, team Canada perfomance are as bad as Beijing’s air quality, so far.

Cheer up team Canada.!

<UPDATE>  And now, team Canada actually have far more medal than Togo , Belarus, Georgia, or North Korea ranked at 13th for total medals count or at 17th with Gold count as of Today, Aug 19th.  Good work team Canada!!
